I just finished my first year and I want to go into oral surgery, but I am currently not at the top of my class. I am at about the 50% percent tile. I know this is an uphill battle but at the same time I do not want to give up. any advice on what to do?

EM vs Anesthesia vs General Surgery
I wasn’t really sure where the best place to post this would be, but figured I would try a couple different spots to hopefully get some advice and maybe some new perspectives.
I’m currently a 3rd (4th?-who knows anymore) year US MD student who will be applying to residency programs this fall. As a 3rd year student I pretty much loved just about every clerkship I did and honestly felt like I would have been happy in most of the specialties I rotated through. Given this, when trying to decide...

Divorce advice
Hi everyone,
I apologize in advance if this post is in the wrong section. I'm currently finishing up my M2 year, and my wife left me a few months ago. She tells me she does not want a divorce, but also insists that she does not want to get back together (at least right now?). As much as this devastates me, I feel it is best for me to move on. But I have a problem: I'm a little bit paranoid after seeing my parents go through their divorce. My dad is a doctor and ended up paying my mom...

AEGD/GPR middle class rank?
My class rank is in the middle but I have a lot of leadership experience at my school and good letters. I'm interested in implant placement, surgical extraction, aesthetics, some perio and peds. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for programs? Location isn't a big issue for me. I have a lot of VA programs on my list but I am worried about how competitive I will be

Licensure in PA?
Hi all,
I’m a bit confused about licensure for DO’s in PA. I’ve read a bit about how we have to complete an osteopathic approved internship year in order to get licensed for practice - is this in addition to a normal internship year? What if we are not seeking AOA licensure and are just seeking acgme licensure?
Any clarification on the licensing process in PA would be greatly appreciated - just thinking about completing residency in PA and want to know about additional hoops for...

COVID - Catch 22
What to do?
Patient actively coughing with SOB and fever refuses to wear a mask despite all persuasion attempts.
On the one hand, physicians need a safe environment.
On the other hand, EMTALA.
N95? PAPR? Doorway medicine? Don't see them? What if you don't have sufficient PPE?
Discuss.

Pediatric dosing
I am in PP and most of my colleagues use only sevoflurane for bmt & adenoids - very rarely use propofol or fentanyl. I normally induce with gas, use 2mg/kg propofol to intubate and titrate in 1mcg/kg fentanyl before case in done. Sometimes I even use up to 4mg/kg in older kiddos if they’re light when I go to put the tube in. I’ve been told by multiple more senior colleagues that might be too much. What do other folks do?
Also, full disclosure these cases are 15-20 minutes at most.
Thanks.

Health Social Science PhD Postdoc Before Medical School | Advice Needed
Hi, SDN Pre-Med Forum:
I searched through the threads but only saw people with a Ph.D. in a science background asking about preparing for medical school. My Ph.D. is in social epidemiology. I am looking for advice on preparing for medical school for these couple of years before medical school. I am at an Ivy League school as a postdoc for the next 2-3 years. I need to take all of my pre-req classes and was just thinking about taking these at a four-year university over the years because it...
